I’ve just removed Disqus comments, since nobody uses them. The one time someone actually did was to correct me, and I’ve already edited that into the post itself.

I use my phone a lot to browse Reddit, and sometimes I click a link to a Tumblr blog and get redirected to an ad site.

Then I wonder, Why hasn’t the post been removed as spam? The answer, after some investigation, is that the blog only redirects on mobile devices. People on desktop and laptop computers have no idea.

To find out if a blog is doing this, you can view the source code for the page. (How to do this depends on the browser you’re using.) Near the beginning, you’ll find code that looks like this:

To make this easy, you can search for “DM_redirect”. Basically, what this does is check if the user is using a mobile browser and redirect to “somesite.example.com” if they are. This site is the ad site.

This is against Tumblr’s Community Guidelines. The Community Guidelines forbid spam, which includes “dubious code in your posts, like using JavaScript to cause redirects or inject unwanted ads.” (Okay, I know it says “posts,” but I think the spirit applies to code in the blog itself.)

If you find one of these blogs, report it! To do this, search for the blog name. When the blog comes up, click the person icon in the upper right and then “Flag this blog.” Report the blog as spam, because that’s what it is.

Well I did just get this message from Tumblr Support yesterday.

The video you posted on Apr 29th, 2016 8:16:07pm was removed for violating our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, which you can skim over at:https://www.tumblr.com/policy/community

Long policy short: we don’t allow sexually explicit videos to be uploaded to Tumblr.

If you think there was a mistake (it happens), you can submit an appeal here.

You’ll need to provide the URL of the removed post:

After too many violations we’ll have to terminate your account — and nobody wants that.

So that could be it I guess but not sure about the other videos that I just noticed are not working either because this is only the second message from tumblr I have received so far. The other one was for the threesome MLP longer animation I did way back last year and it was only for the preview.

Not sure what is going on right now and with the dmca stuff coming from Blizzard on Overwatch models in SFM happening now, I am not sure what to do. And I just got a message from a patron saying that Blizzard is sending out DMCA notices to people using the Overwatch SFM models. I have not gotten that message myself but I am kinda at a lost on what I should do at this point. This could be the beginning of the end peeps…

Come on, it's not that hard to put it on another site. You could even put a teaser GIF (which I'm pretty sure is not a video).

Tumblr provides great latitude in posting sexually explicit content, but one thing that has always been forbidden is directly uploading sexually explicit video.

Just to be clear, directly uploading is when you select “Upload a video” (on the desktop site) or “Choose a video” (on mobile) when making a video post.

I think the best alternative for posting such a video is putting a teaser image (maybe a GIF) and then linking to the actual the video (uploaded elsewhere, of course) in the post. Here’s a good example. (You can also embed the video, but that can be tough for some sites.)

The rule is part of the Community Guidelines:

Uploading Sexually Explicit Video. You can embed anything in a Tumblr post as long as it’s lawful and follows our other guidelines, but please don’t use Tumblr’s Upload Video feature to upload sexually explicit video. We’re not in the business of hosting adult-oriented videos (and it’s fucking expensive).

okay so for anyone having the problem where you go to someone’s blog and it thinks you’re logged out and just gives you these buttons rather than the like/follow/reblog/whatever buttons:

…here’s how to fix it! go to your chrome settings, scroll to the bottom and click ‘show advanced settings’ and then ‘content settings’

you probably have this box ticked:

which is what’s causing the issue. leave it ticked and go to ‘manage exceptions’

put [*.]tumblr.com in the box and make sure the behaviour is set to ‘allow’

click ‘finished’ and you’re all done!
