I live about a 2 or 3 hour drive from Los Angeles. I definitely didn’t notice anything myself, and being the intense introvert that I am, I don’t generally bother to check the local news.

So this comes as a surprise to even me. XD

Introverted doesn’t mean not keeping up with the news. Just sayin’. XD That’s why I still make trips to your blog: lots of fandom news (read: drama) to glean from Tumblr.

lilboulder:

How the hell are there still ‘Applejack is a background pony’ jokes going around I thought it was generally agreed that they were unfunny obnoxious and ridiculously overused

Basically any “X is a background pony” (or “favorite background pony”)

Hey, bronies. Don’t get so down.

Go back and watch the first season. Go back and listen to the first brony song you loved. Go back and find your first favorite artist. Can you remember the first pony image you saved? What was the first fanfic you ever read? When was your first convention? Who was your first brony friend?

Remember those times? Drown yourself in those memories. Find some peace. Find some happiness. Get in touch with an old friend. Ignore hate. Pity the angry ones. Let go of fear. Give someone a smile. Remind someone how much you care about them. Forgive someone who deserves a second chance.

Even if that person is yourself.

Simplify things. Remember when being a brony was simple? Remember when it was just about a cool show, cool fans, and the smile you couldn’t suppress while singing Winter Wrap Up? Hang onto those memories, and focus on the good.

I see a lot of people acting like our fandom is dying. It’s not. We’re just … not as excited as we used to be. Maybe we’re tired. The enthusiasm is waning. That’s okay! Honestly, we could have benefited from dialing down our enthusiasm just a tiny bit a long time ago … ;)

Maybe our friends aren’t perfect, like we used to think. Maybe the show’s staff is human. Maybe we’ve all made mistakes. Maybe none of us, and none of this, is perfect. We’re getting to know each other better. We’re not always going to agree. We’re going to be ugly sometimes. We’re going to go our separate ways. Don’t let it get you down. It’s normal. We’re growing.

Remember … it’s just a cartoon show. We’re all just fans. It’s all simple. It’s all still about small pastel colored ponies. It’s not about fights, or awards, or subscribers, or networks, or pandering, or money, or contracts, or accusations, or hate, or fear, or judgment or drama  -. It’s about friendship.

It only dies when we let it.

Let’s keep it going. :)

This has been a public message by Mandopony… Also, it’s been too long since I’ve seen anything from the first season, I should REALLY go back and watch that…

Passing along this info. Don’t buy into this scam.

This is posted no Equestria After Dark. (No direct link since it’s NSFW), but it’s on their front page if you wanna see more.

But tl:dr, this project is a scam.

I also have resources for enabling your safe search features on my site poniesforparents.com, and will be updating it soon with how to blacklist sites through your web browser and how to disable autocomplete.

This is all really goof advice that I fully endorse but, —

Actually, I’d tell you to stick to the bigger sites like glue.

Here’s the thing about websites. The bigger and more popular they get, the more pressure they have from their audience to incorporate more and more features to make the site more accessible (and by extension bring in more ad revenue).

In fact, the sites that actually get the most (well deserved) criticism actually put in the most effort to do this.

Equestria Daily, the nucleus of the Brony Ego, filters most of it’s NSFW content off to a separate website, Equestria After Dark (which is preceded by Blogger’s usual Age Gate). Additionally, they offer the ability to browse the site in No Fanfiction Mode, which can (and will) filter out 90% of the site’s most worthless content. In fact, a new analysis show called “After The Fact” by Silver Quill is hosted there these days. These are a very funny (and safe for children, however they are a little bloated for most kids to comprehend) review show that looks more in depth into the show itself.

Derpibooru, one of the most toxic places for the community so far (aside from 4Chan) has taken great lengths to improve it’s filtering system. And most objectionable content is either filtered or spoilered by default. And you can easily avoid the vast majority of it’s horrid content by blacklisting the following tags: Suggestive, Questionable, Explicit, Grimdark, Semi-Grimdark, Image Macro, Meta. All the site really needs is an account setting to disable displaying comments on images (though disabling any and all Javascript can force this yourself until they do).

And most Tumblr blogs do in fact flag their content. And there is a well known Addon for most browsers that allow you to filter out particular tags you find on any objectionable content you find. And asking Tumblr Users to tag their content is not an unreasonable thing to ask.

Beyond that… that’s it, that’s all I know.

Geez! “Worthless content”? “Horrid Content?” Isn’t that a bit harsh?

I’m all for promoting MLP for young girls—it was their show first after all. And I take great efforts to make sure it’s safe for them. But goddamn, it’s upsetting that what I seem to get in return is accusation of being a “disgusting brony” all the time, for liking the content that I like.

Can we just… *sigh* I just wish everyone would stop being so extreme and judgmental.

I don’t have much to say other than this erratum: Equestria Daily and Equestria After Dark are not affiliated, according to EQAD’s FAQ page. Equestria Daily just generally doesn’t allow adult content.
